ZALDUA MAKES GOLD, CAMILLETTI MAKES HISTORY AS HIGHEST RATED WOMAN IN LIGHTSPEED

The second annual beach tournament in Southern California ended up being a historic day in Lightspeed Saber history. While Zaldua’s win was no terrible surprise, Phoebe Camilletti’s silver medal placed her in the “B” category, not only making her the first woman to achieve the grade, but also definitively makes her the highest ranked Lightspeed woman ever (though she is not North American champion— that distinction goes to Allison Fournier of Tennessee). Dinah Kolasa was edged out by Camilletti by just a few points in the semi’s, but she eventually took third, defeating senior teammate John Mullins for the first time, which earned her a “C” grade.

As with all sports, paradigms shift, records fall, and new champions rise. We’re super excited to see what happens in the next competitive year, and even more excited to see what comes from the new upstarts, Phoebe Camilletti and Dinah Kolasa.
