EVENTS

The formats that were loved from last year are returning! Continuing from last year, the weapons are divided into different weapons categories: Rey Saber (standard), Ren Saber (crossguard), and Mixed Weapon (Rey, Ren, & Tano).

THE WEAPON MASTER

The Weapon Master is also returning from last year. This title will not be achievable from winning from just one event, no. Fencers who show their skill in competing both with and against every weapon in Lightspeed’s arsenal will be eligible. Fencers will need to compete in all three tournament types—Ren, Rey, and Mixed Weapon—and fight with at least two different weapon types. Weapon types available for use in the Mixed Weapon divisions are Rey Saber, Ren Saber, and Tano Saber.

REY SABER TOURNIES

This tourney starts with a general pool on Friday. The top performers in the pool may compete in the Division I elims the next day. The remainder compete in the Division II elims immediately after the pool. Fencers of rank C or higher may skip the pool.

  • All genders, age 15+

  • All grades or lack thereof, no membership required

  • General pools

  • Division II elims

  • Division I elims (C+)

REN SABER TOURNEY

For those followers of the Ren method. Pit Ren against Ren in this Ren Saber exclusive event to see who “Rens” supreme and earns the title of National Ren Saber Champion.

  • All genders, age 15+

  • All grades or lack thereof, no membership required

  • Pools & elimination bracket

MIXED WEAPON TOURNIES

Any of the 3 weapon systems are allowed in this event. Like Rey Saber, it has a general pool on Friday and split division brackets. Both elims are on Saturday. Ranks C and higher may skip the pool.

  • All genders, age 15+

  • All grades or lack thereof, no membership required

  • General pool

  • Division II elims

  • Division I elims (C+)

CADETS & YOUNGLINGS TOURNEY

This is an open championship event for the padawans of Lightspeed Saber League.

  • Rey Saber

  • Ages 8-14

  • Format TBD

WOMEN’S MIXED WEAPON TOURNAMENT

Ladies, here’s the opportunity to show your dark side. The women’s all weapon event is a place for you to bring out that Ren saber—if you wish. Light and Dark side, Rey and Ren saber styles, can clash here in the all weapon tournament.

  • All weapons

  • All grades or lack thereof, no membership required

  • Pools & elimination bracket

  • Gender policy

3v3 TAG TEAM “ANNIHILATION” SKIRMISH

Teams of 3 fight one-on-one but have the opportunity to tag out, change weapons, and huddle to discuss strategy between encounters. Unlike standard Lightspeed Saber, each fencer goes into the fight with a set amount of life points. You can rack up a lot of kills while still being eliminated if you’re not careful. Defense restores life points and revives defeated teammates. It’s a fight of threes on two fronts!

  • Each team must have at least one man and at least one woman on the team

  • All weapons

  • All grades or lack thereof, no membership required

  • Elimination bracket

  • Teams of 3 (no more, no less)

  • Annihilation rules

TEAM DUET SKIRMISH

Are you a force dyad? Master and padawan? Form a skirmish wing and battle against other wings to see which team reigns supreme.

Each skirmish is made up of six one-on-one matches. The first four matches are reconnaissance bouts— feel out your opponents and see what they can do. Every member of a team fights every member of the other team.

The final two battles are secret— you won’t know who you’re facing until you step in the ring. Discuss strategy with your teammate, plan ahead, and come up with the best strategy to achieve victory.

  • All genders eligible

  • Elimination bracket

  • Teams of two (no more, no less)

  • Skirmish format

SKIRMISH WING COMPOSITION RULES

  • Both members must be from the same squadron OR

  • The combined team skill level cannot exceed 7 (see skill rules below) OR

  • You must be paired with someone at random, or as determined by the tournament staff

Skill levels are assigned by grade:

  • A = 6 points

  • B = 5 points

  • C = 4 points

  • D = 3 points

  • E = 2 points

  • U = 1 point

‘U’-champ rule: If you have placed 1st in any weapon-based sport or martial arts competition (including Lightspeed Saber), your grade is equal to your current LS grade or a temporary grade as listed below, whichever is higher:

  • International competition: B

  • National competition: C

  • Regional competition: D
