The cool thing about Lightspeed Saber fencing is you don’t need a lot to begin! Here’s a guide for getting started on your own.

(Note that this guide is being revised for COVID-19 compliance)

STEP 1 - CONNECT TO US

We do different things in different places around the web, from our Instagram to our YouTube channel, where you’ll find the Lightspeed Saber Rogue Series, to our TikTok where you can enjoy short snippets from the show! But the place to talk to us is our international Facebook group.

STEP 2 - CONNECT TO OTHERS

Find individuals or teams near you with this map. If you can’t find anyone, place a marker down for yourself to help others find you. Note that this is a PUBLIC map, so be careful what contact information you decide to include. Your name and an email address should be enough.

To add yourself to the map, expand the map, then click EDIT.

STEP 3 - GET A SABER

You don’t technically need an actual LED saber to start learning but it helps to familiarize yourself early. We recommend the Rey-class for your first Lightspeed Saber. Check the weapon class page for regulations to make sure the hilt you purchase is Lightspeed legal.

Note that you do not need a Lightspeed blade to start practicing moves. You only need one once you begin competing. The standard blade that comes with your purchase should be fine for the time being.

STEP 4 - LEARN BASIC MOVES AND CONCEPTS

We have tons of free information available for Lightspeed Saber fencing. But if you’re practicing alone, you may want to learn our sequences. This is a growing library of technical exercises that help you fine tune your technique without a partner. You can do this on your own and evaluate yourself, or you can enroll in our program, where we’ll evaluate you to make sure you’re doing everything right. You can even get certified to evaluate others.

STEP 5 - GET EQUIPMENT

To do Lightspeed Saber fencing you need to be properly equipped. This activity is dangerous. Make sure that you have everything listed on this page. And don’t forget about a mouth and nose covering to protect yourself and others from spreading disease.

STEP 6 - LEARN AND PRACTICE BASIC SPARRING DRILLS

Check out and follow our training blog for tips in technique and tactics. For the best experience, join our Patreon at just $5 a month for weekly videos and the ability to request topics and ask questions.

STEP 7 - LEARN THE RULES OF COMPETITIVE LIGHTSPEED SABER

Learn the rules of Lightspeed Saber fencing so you’re ready for your first duel. It’s enough to just understand the basic rules at first, as displayed here.

If you’re part of an established squadron, it may be the time to have your first official duel with referees! Otherwise, see the next step.

STEP 8 - LEARN THE REFEREE SYSTEM

Lightspeed Saber League is still a small organization, which means everyone needs to perform double or triple duty to keep things going. That includes learning how to be a referee so that you can serve our competitions and serve new members as a knowledgeable official.

Referee training video coming soon.
