While you don’t have to do everything in this guide, it’s a good way to begin, especially if there is already an existing team near you. (Please note that, due to COVID-19, teams are in various states of operation at this time.)

STEP 1 - CONNECT TO US

We do different things in different places around the web. Our Instagram is the best place to see daily content. Our YouTube channel is the best place to watch our livestreams.

But the best place to talk to us is our Discord server. Get in contact with us and let us know you’re on the radar.

 
 

STEP 2 - CONNECT TO A LOCAL TEAM

Find a team near you at our squadron page, make contact, and make a plan to meet, try out, and join!

Be sure to sign the team and league waiver beforehand.

 
 

STEP 3 - GET A SABER

You don’t technically need an actual LED saber to start learning but it helps to familiarize yourself early. We recommend the Rey-class for your first Lightspeed Saber. Check the weapon class page for regulations to make sure the hilt you purchase is Lightspeed legal.

Note that you do not need a Lightspeed blade to start practicing moves. You only need one once you begin competing. The standard blade that comes with your purchase should be fine for the time being.

STEP 4 - LEARN BASIC MOVES AND CONCEPTS

We have tons of free information available for Lightspeed Saber fencing. But if you’re practicing alone, you may want to learn our sequences. This is a growing library of technical exercises that help you fine-tune your technique without a partner. You can do this on your own and evaluate yourself, or you can enroll in our program, where we’ll evaluate you to make sure you’re doing everything right. You can even get certified to evaluate others.

 
 

STEP 5 - GET EQUIPMENT

To do Lightspeed Saber fencing you need to be properly equipped. This activity is dangerous. Make sure that you have everything listed on this page.

 
 


STEP 6 - LEARN AND PRACTICE BASIC SPARRING TECHNIQUES & STRATEGY

Our YouTube channel is probably the best source of information for practical Lightspeed Saber fencing. Look for our instructionals and commentaries.

 
 

STEP 7 - LEARN THE RULES OF COMPETITIVE LIGHTSPEED SABER

Learn the rules of Lightspeed Saber fencing so you’re ready for your first official duel.

 
 

STEP 8 - COMPETE!

Remember, practice is practice and competition is practice. Nothing gets you learning faster than a tournament.

 
 

STEP 9 - GO OFFICIAL

Get a competition membership and start moving up the ladder in your local area.
