Counterhits are an essential element in lightsaber combat, and in some ways is the most intuitive element of all. Today we learn good practices in counterhitting and targeting accuracy.
Shield-1 and Deflector-1 are inextricably linked together and one is not effectively used without the other. Done well, Deflector-1 leads to a powerful counterattack. The auxiliary is mostly designed to loosen up your shoulders.
Shields-3 and 4 are rarely used by beginners and intermediates, even though they're among the first shields taught. Today's lesson is on split-shields, a modification that makes Shields-3 and -4 more useful in combat. Works best against taller opponents.
In Coruscant III we introduce several new footwork elements, including the A-step and a traverse. We also will do a beat-attack and a bolt-attack.
A continuation of the themes found in Coruscant I. We escalate the opening shield into a deflector for a much faster counterattack. Footwork is a bit more complex this time, featuring a spin-shield. Recommended you do not use a heavygrade blade unless you conduct your hook and low pommel-cut very slowly.
This week's sequence is a nice general form built for versatility and transitions. It has very easy footwork and a range of blade movements, including shields, sweeps, and tandem strikes. It contains 9 movements and is appropriate to any blade weight.
