The idea of a fakeout is well known and simple enough. However, doing a fakeout well requires efficiency. Otherwise, you run the risk of wasting your own time and energy, or worse, getting intercepted.

The main idea in this simple video is to deliver a two-beat action within a single step. This ensures that you are able to deliver your fakeout while not losing time by collapsing your feint and your attack into one lunge. This way, you are consistently accelerating toward the target even as you are delivering a false attack.

  1. As your lunge begins, extend the feint.

  2. Redirect the attack to a different region and complete the lunge as the attack is being delivered.

In the example to the right, the feint is extended high through the centerline. It is then redirected to the dummy’s right flank and completed as the lunge completes.
